-
- I am not sure if this is the right group. No harm trying.
-
- I have a 27MHZ clock signal connected to a PC card. The problem is that
- the ground plane of the PC card shows a 20millivolt signal which wrecks
- other amplifier circuits on the board. I am using a coaxial cable. Any
- clue as to how I can keep the ground plane clean.

- I have an excellent ICOM radio, the R-100 which
- is only 1 year old and is in mint condition. It
- has all original equipment with this radio (like
- antennas, mounting bracket, screws, box, manual,
- etc.). I am interested in getting another radio
- since this radio has served it purpose for me (see
- what is out on the radio waves). This is a
- full coverage radio and is very sensitive. It has
- AM, FM and wide-FM modes and I have not had any
- problem with it. I do not want to go lower than
- $500 for this radio but I would consider paying
- shipping and handling. If your interested give me
- email and I will get back to you.

-
- I've been listening around the HF band trying to see if I can hear any of this
- Jovian activity currently going on. I recently read a post (somewhere) that
- described what Jupiter sounds like. I hadn't heard anything even nearing
- resemblance of the ocean-wave sound until today at 19:16 UTC.
-
- BTW, today is 18 July. I looked at the clock after hearing the ocean wave
- sounds eminating from my Drake TR-7. The signals were very strong and only
- lasted about 30 seconds or so. My antenna is an inverted vee cut for 14.336
- MHz (which is where I heard what I believe to be the noise generated by
- Fragment H of the Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet). The apex of my antenna is at about
- 30 feet and each leg slopes 45 degrees downward. [Duh!]
-
- I have two copies of the impact time schedule; one I downloaded, and one
- printed in the local newspaper. I believe the newspaper schedule to be the
- more correct of the two and indicates the time impact would be seen on Earth if
- Jupiter were not in the way. Estimates were as of July 11 and includes a
- correction factor. Today's fragment had a correction factor of +/- 9.4
- minutes. The schedule shows time of impact to be 12:25:55 p.m. PDT which
- would be 15:25:55 p.m. EDT (where I am located) [Duh!] Converted to UTC that
- would be 19:25:55. Considering the +/- 9.4 minute correction factor the
- actual time could have been anywhere between 19:16 and 19:35 (roughly)...
-
- Did anyone else catch Fragment H today? I'll probably be sawing logs zzzzzzzz
- when Fragment K hits Jupiter but will be listening for L at around 3:07:07 p.m.
- PDT, 6:07:07 p.m. EDT = 22:07:07 UTC +/- 10.2 mins on 14.336 MHz, incidentally
- on the County Hunter's Net frequency. Yeah, I'm a CH.
-
- Hearing the noises generated by a planet 480 million miles away is pretty
- intriguing if you ask me. Takes light 43 minutes to travel from there to
- here. Wonder how many Jovian Cloud Flyers have been wiped out? Maybe after
- it's all over with, they'll all be extinct and in dinosaur heaven...don't
- ya know.

-
- This is all speculation. I've made quantitative measurements between my
- Ringo Ranger, a quarter wave ground plane, an Isopole, and a J-pole.
- All were mounted on top of similar trees and fed approximately the same.
- The Ringo outperformed them all, more or less. More in the case of the
- 1/4 wave, less compared to J-pole and Isopole although the Isopole seems
- to be very freq. selective about giving a good pattern.
- What's the big deal about an end-fed half wave with matching network?
- The AEA Hotrod antenna is similar and would probably make a good base
- station antenna as well.
- Is there much difference between an AR-2 Ringo and a Ringo Ranger or
- Ranger II? Some, but not much in my experience.
